Integrated Green LiDAR System on Autonomous
Drone for High-Efficiency Bathymetric Observation
The GreenHyDrone project aims to develop and validate an autonomous measurement system for high-resolution bathymetric profiling in turbid water reservoirs, with a focus on industrial environments. The system
integrates a novel LiDAR sensor based on Single Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) technology with a custom-designed unmanned surface vehicle (USV), enabling non-contact depth measurements in conditions where
conventional sonar or optical methods are unreliable.
The project builds on prior laboratory and freshwater deployments of the LiDAR system, and extends its capabilities to more complex and optically challenging environments. A critical innovation lies in adapting the sensor
and platform integration for industrial field conditions, including environmental hardening, embedded processing constraints, and mission autonomy.
Meeting the demanding requirements of the industrial environment will also allow for the application of this system on sea waters, where operating conditions are similar. The system could then be used to monitor
underwater parts of offshore wind farms or drilling platforms.
The system will address pressing needs in water management, environmental risk mitigation, and infrastructure monitoring.Type your paragraph here
